In October of this year, five Floridians who were attending the Housing Justice Academy in Atlanta (hosted by the American Friends Service Committee and Occupy Our Homes Atlanta) decided to help bring an Occupy-style housing justice movement to Florida. They formed Occupy Our Homes Florida to organize a state-wide conference of homeowners and activists interested in using public pressure and direct action to stop banks from illegally taking people’s homes. We have already formed Occupy Our Homes, Orlando, Occupy Our Homes, Jacksonville, and Occupy Our Homes, Manasota, and are hoping to inspire and connect with more such organizations all around Florida. All are welcome at our conference which will be in Orlando from Friday, January 31st to Sunday, February 2nd. It will include speakers and workshops designed to empower people to fight bank and government corruption and to protect the homes of innocent people from bankster greed.
